People who communicate to others about themselves rather freely, who are frank and open, who express their views, opinions, knowledge, and feelings freely, and who share their knowledge and personal experiences with others can be considered as the self-disclosing type. These people constantly communicate with others and make an impact on them. This communication or self-disclosure helps in generating data and such an individual has more of an open and public self than private self. Without an optimal amount of self-disclosure we deny an opportunity for others to know us and for ourselves to get appropriate feedback. People who don't communicate openly are private individuals who may have difficulty discovering themselves fully. At least it is difficult for them to see themselves fully through the eyes of others and also they make limited impact on others.::다소 자유롭게 스스로에 대해서 다른 사람들에게 전달하고, 솔직하고 개방적이며, 자신의 관점, 의견, 지식, 감정을 자유롭게 표현하고, 자신의 지식과 개인적 경험을 다른 사람들과 공유하는 사람들은 자기 노출 유형으로 여겨질 수 있다. 이러한 사람들은 끊임없이 다른 사람들과 소통하고 그들에게 영향을 준다. 이 소통 또는 자기 노출은 정보를 생성함에 있어 도움이 되며 그와 같은 사람은 사적 자아보다는 개방적이고 공개적인 자아를 더 많이 지니고 있다. 최적량의 자기 노출이 없다면 우리는 다른 사람들이 우리에 대해서 알 기회와 우리 자신이 적절한 피드백을 받을 기회를 받아들이지 않게 된다. 개방적으로 소통하지 않는 사람들은 스스로를 완전히 발견하는 데에 어려움을 겪는 사적인 개인들이다. 적어도 그들은 다른 사람들의 눈을 통해서 완전히 자신을 아는 것이 어렵고, 또한 다른 사람들에게 제한된 영향을 미친다.
