Douglas Carl Engelbart was an American engineer and inventor who transformed the field of human-computer interaction. He was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1925 to a European immigrant family. During World War II, he served as a radar technician in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines. It was during this time that he read an article that influenced his vision of using computers to enhance human abilities and solve complex problems. After serving, he earned master's and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, where he focused on computer-related research. In the 1968 Fall Joint Computer Conference held in San Francisco, he demonstrated his technologies including the computer mouse, which became a monumental event in computer history. For his contributions to computer science, he received the Turing Award in 1997 and the National Medal of Technology three years later.::Douglas Carl Engelbart는 인간과 컴퓨터의 상호 작용 분야를 변화시킨 미국인 엔지니어이자 발명가였다.
